SECOND HOOGLY BRIDGE

As a passenger, I occasionally crossed this bridge
In public bus, with curiosity and fondness in heart,
It comes into my mind to walk down this bridge
With fun, as boyish fun, to view the city
On the river with calm mind, to breath in Kolkata air,
The large space would be highly pleasant resolved
Sense of life, that busy and clumsy city gets some
Freshness inside, and monotone syndrome gets
Relief from relentless running for shirt-button cage
And rubbing hands upon routine workloads,
The way we always quest for living, run on road,
I am not so far as, of my staying, from the bridge.

Hoogly’s bridge has no trick over its passengers
And cannot ask for blood, except eerie riders or
Bus drivers get their return, accidents are fateful
Prey, on every occasion, the bridge is silent.
I guess what fate and rough worldly sin it has
Observed and would witness with moving events
Upon it, of course, of happenings in Kolkata,
One day while passing on it, I remember,
I was accompanied with one nearest relative.
He had to move for dialysis of diabetic kidney failure
He only said, “How is the bridge looking in its vastness?”
He couldn’t seat on bed in the moving ambulance,
So weak he was, while he was taking 84th
Dialysis, it was his quest and jest on the earth.
I made a sincere reply, it seemed my words
Not satisfying him and he heaved a deep sigh.
I looked at the crowded buses and vehicles
And the sun just takes a peep from the cloud,
The virtue and the venture make satire of existence.

COLLEGE SQUIRE LAKE

Rain just stops falling,
I come out from a shade of a shop
In the street of College Squire,
Kolkata gets path of swaying of rain.

I stop at College Squire Lake,
A mist hovers in circling strangeness,
Lake water cool and vibrant with little waves,
Magical moments, behold decent calmness.

Rain holds easiness upon the earth,
It is the source of charming apparel
In sequence of philosophical tune,
I just take the path of remembering

Of those days when I came here
For taking a dig into career
Forty five years back, and to me now
This lake is like something born

Behind glossary of connective terms
Those are still musical in heart of
Roving life with significant zeal to survive,

In the heights of remembering the past.

TANKA

Summer morning clouds,
Little, yet covering the sun
On the river Hoogly,
Buildings in Kolkata stand
On the bank in grey out line.

ONE DAY ON THE PATHWAY

Being alone one day

I was walking around

The streets of Kolkata

Then I found

A new building is coming up

In the place of old building

Demolished

And all old furniture

And wooden door and window

Materials are stacked

As if these are antiques

With a hanging notice board

Announcing the activity -

Inviting auction sale

Of all old materials to be checked

For further use

If one likes to repair and reuse

The old valuables, if one can find it feasible.

I am thinking of my life

I have everything

A house, wife, son, daughter-in-law,

A little grandson,

Yet I am moving alone,

They are theirs,

The baby is theirs,

Wife is in a mood

To farewell everything,

Their eyes cast shadows,

Over the scares and gathering

They want to get benefit,

And I cannot think I am elderly one

To say something valuable

As if I am lonely man walking down roadway,

Thinking of demolished building,

Wherein once lived old residents, with

High spirits and solvency held high

In the time of their sovereignty,

Their power to propagate supremacy,

Now their memorabilia are sold,

As dead great grandmother had not to worry about

What she had one to hold and what she had

Not to possess about on the passage of time.

And in my loneliness,

I am also sold to the art of buying antifreeze of a car

In the equation of theory and data retrieved:

If theory is true, data is true, depending

On hands those are already moved to selling content

That slips down old Sapphire glory

As if harvest morning dismisses cloudy sky.

Standing on the Broadway passage,
I pass my time with my baggage
For my journey to Chicago, Seattle, Austin, airport, and
My ride starts for India – Kolkata, Delhi, Madras and Mumbai.
In my youthful aromas, and I want to see the locations,
And I am curious of sensation; I can feel it of my visits there,
With my affordable fare and journey cost,
And I want to see sunset at the Juhu Beach,
To compare the scene that I see at my place - California beach.

I will visit Santiniketan with my friends,
And from bookstore at Visva-Bharati University,

I will buy one full collection of writings RabindranathTagore,
My mind will be enlightened with echo of spirited feeling of his writings.
There are places I may walk with thoughts that may grow,
With an echo of a sound that creates blessings of this world.
I may have some knowledge of spiritual insights of India,
And I can enter the existence of the beautiful earth,
And understand the world of nature, the mother earth preserves.
